Obama wins hands down.

McCain's closing statement was his strongest moment but it reminded me of a Senate script handed out years ago in the cloak room, when in doubt of what to say, just tell 'em you love America, they can't argue with that.

<atom:published xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">Tue, 07 Oct 2008 00:00:00 GMT</atom:published>
The Ed Schultz Show - Ed Says Blog

Test of Self Discipline for Barack Obama

Tonight will be a big test of self discipline for Barack Obama. After claiming this would be a campaign of issues and a higher ground of moral character, John McCain has allowed his disdain for Obama to enter the arena.

McCain has shown his true Rovian colors by allowing his easily led and empty skirt running mate attempt to trash the reputation of a fellow Senator. At 72, McCain feels he has nothing to lose and a scorched earth policy on Obama will only rile a rabid base that might salvage his efforts to become the next President.

Palin has no clue what she is saying or what she is doing. She's willing to be a political whore at any price. The test for Obama is to remain strong in the face of such scurrilous attacks and false accusations. This is a man who has repeatedly taken the high road and kept his stride with the American people who demand more from their leaders. McCain is proving to be nothing more than inside the beltway trash. He is everything America doesn't need or want.

Last night on Larry King, Oliver Stone described McCain as a "war monger". McCain will trim operations
in Minnesota this week and may be out of the state by the end of the week. Obama has opened a solid double digit lead in the Gopher state. Some McCain insiders
feel the state is already lost coupled by the fact that Al Franken is now leading Senator Norm Coleman.

Sources with knowledge of the campaign are telling me this will be a crucial week for McCain. All Minnesota efforts will be reallocated to Ohio, Florida and possibly Virginia.

The McCain camp is now expecting the 527's to attack Obama on character in an attempt to shift the conversation and focus off the economy. One source told me tonight, "We are definitely in need of a game changer."

<atom:published xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">Mon, 06 Oct 2008 00:00:00 GMT</atom:published>
The Ed Schultz Show - Ed Says Blog

Tonight Was No Surprise

What we saw tonight was no surprise. Biden is an experienced public servant who opened a window to his heart coupled with visionary detail. On every subject, Biden left no doubt with his thoughtful and forceful insight to make the country better. Most effectively, Biden dispelled the McCain myth of being a "Maverick" to average Americans.

Palin presented poise and a refreshing confidence that novice news consumers like and feel good about although she repeatedly was short on substance and overly generic. It was like watching a rapid fire bullet point machine supported by a smile that
has been absent from the American political stage. Her poise and innate self confidence propelled her presentation. However, for Palin, that's where it ended.

There were no major surprises. Both played to their strengths with Biden being the clear and concise winner.

This debate will not change the current dynamic of the race as states will continue to trend towards Obama.

<atom:published xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">Fri, 03 Oct 2008 00:00:00 GMT</atom:published>
The Ed Schultz Show - Ed Says Blog

McCain Needs a Game Changer

The Democrats have been screaming about middle class tax cuts for a decade and finally were in a position to hammer it through. Even in the midst of a financial meltdown the Washington Senate culture thrives.

This should not have happened, not now. I can't help but think this is just a bone thrown to the opposition opposed to Congressional intervention on this financial crisis. Main street folks could have claimed something was in it for them.

The polls are indicating clearly McCain needs a game changer. He knows it. His terse attitude towards Obama on the Senate floor last night speaks volumes about the pressure he's shouldering. But, he missed a golden opportunity to deliver the much needed game changer.

After months of pounding the culture of Washington on the campaign trail and purporting the position of a "Maverick", McCain voted "Yes" on the rescue package. $700 billion dollars turned to $850 billion with the tax cuts. I thought McCain was going to guard the treasury, make people famous, change how Washington does business. A "No" vote would have reinforced the "Maverick" image, put Obama on the defensive, and possibly driven some independent and conservative Democrats his way. It would have also increased his stump credibility by coordinating his message with action at a crucial time when Americans were paying attention.

<atom:published xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">Thu, 02 Oct 2008 00:00:00 GMT</atom:published>
The Ed Schultz Show - Ed Says Blog

Media is Focused on Small Business Credit

The media is now focused on small business and the credit they need to function. If the banks can't forward the credit, they can't survive.

Listeners need to explain to me how that is a good thing, to have small business suffer like this?

This is the motivation behind the entire Congressional assistance being talked about. They are trying to avert a massive unemployment problem. In the arena of no regulation and overriding theory that the free market can fix anything, it's all Nancy Pelosi and her partisan comments that shoulder the blame.

This is an admission by the conservatives they feel her words are stronger than John McCain's leadership on the issue. The American people need to ask themselves, do we want to lose another 1.2 trillion in investment in the market or loan the market 500 billion? Do we want to see massive job loss due to tight credit or do we really want revenge on who or what caused this?

Asian markets are not responding well to the lack of action by the Congress and it's clear to me we need to recognize government does play a role in all of this at some level.
